Fulbright Foreign Student Program

The Fulbright Foreign Student Program is sponsored by the U.S. Department of State and aims to promote mutual understanding and cultural exchange between the people of the United States and other countries. The program operates in more than 160 countries worldwide and awards approximately 4,000 scholarships each year¹.

As a Fulbright Foreign Student, you will have the opportunity to pursue a Master’s or PhD degree, or a non-degree research project, in any field of study at a U.S. university or institution. You will also have access to a wide range of academic, professional, and cultural resources and activities, such as conferences, workshops, seminars, lectures, field trips, and community service. You will also be able to network with other Fulbrighters, alumni, and experts in your field.

Fulbright Foreign Student Program

The Fulbright Foreign Student Program covers the full cost of your study and research in the U.S., including tuition fees, airfare, living expenses, health insurance, and other benefits. The duration of the program varies depending on your country of origin and your academic or research plan, but it usually ranges from one to four years².

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for the Fulbright Foreign Student Program, you must meet the following criteria:

• You must be a citizen of a foreign country. You cannot hold U.S. citizenship or permanent residency
• You must have a bachelor’s degree or its equivalent from an accredited institution
• You must have a sufficient level of English proficiency to undertake the proposed study or research in the U.S
• You must have a strong academic record and demonstrate leadership potential and commitment to your field and community
• You must have a clear and feasible study or research plan that aligns with the goals of the Fulbright Program and the needs of your home country.
• You must be in good health and willing to undergo a medical examination and security clearance

Application Process

The application process for the Fulbright Foreign Student Program varies by country and is administered by binational Fulbright Commissions/Foundations or U.S. Embassies.
