Undergraduate Scholarships
University of British Columbia has two main categories of fully funded scholarships for international undergraduate students: the International Scholars Program and the Vantage One Excellence Award
The Vantage One Excellence Award
The Vantage One Excellence Award is offered by UBC Vantage College, which is a program for academically outstanding international students who do not yet meet the English language admission standard for direct admission to UBC.
The Vantage College program allows students to complete the first year of their bachelor’s degree in an intensive academic English environment, and then transition to the second year of their degree at UBC. The Vantage One Excellence Award provides a stipend and a tuition waiver for the first year of the Vantage College program, and it is renewable for the second year of the bachelor’s degree at UBC. The award also includes access to academic and personal support, as well as cultural and social activities. \
Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for this award, you must be an international student who will be studying in Canada on a Canadian study permit, and you must meet UBC’s general admission requirements, except for the English language admission standard. You must also demonstrate financial need and academic excellence, and submit a separate online application for the Vantage One Excellence Award by January 15.

The Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarships
The Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarships are prestigious scholarships for doctoral students who demonstrate leadership skills and a high standard of scholarly achievement in graduate studies in the social sciences and humanities, natural sciences and engineering, or health. The Vanier CGS provides a stipend of $50,000 per year for up to three years of doctoral study. The Vanier CGS is open to Canadian and international students, and it is awarded based on academic excellence, research potential, and leadership skills.
Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for the Vanier CGS, you must be an international student who will be studying in Canada on a Canadian study permit, and you must meet UBC’s general admission requirements and English language admission standard for doctoral programs. You must also be nominated by your graduate program at UBC.
The Liu Institute for Global Issues Graduate Award
The Liu Institute for Global Issues Graduate Award is a scholarship for master’s and doctoral students who are conducting research on global issues, such as human security, sustainable development, social justice, and human rights. The award provides a stipend of $18,000 per year for up to two years of graduate study. The award is open to students in all disciplines and fields, and it is awarded based on academic excellence, research potential, and relevance of the research topic to global issues.
Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for this award, you must be an international student who will be studying in Canada on a Canadian study permit, and you must meet UBC’s general admission requirements and English language admission standard for graduate programs. You must also be supervised by a faculty member who is affiliated with the Liu Institute for Global Issues.
